Let’s Start with the Weekend.
we had the BEST weekend, it was the perfect way to kick off the month of October! the Deerfield Fair was this weekend, which is the fair to attend in New Hampshire. i haven’t been able to attend in several years (because of the pandemic), so my sweet husband suggested we go this year and i could not have been more thrilled. we ate all the food, we visited all the animals, and we had just the best day.

I’m Pretty Sure I went to Bingo at least 3 Times this Week.
we all know bingo is one of the three things you do not mess with when it comes to working with older adults (the other two being church and hair salon appointments). and stereotype or not, my residents LOVE bingo. so i try to integrate into my sessions as much as possible, especially when my goals are cognition-focused. for some reason, i attended bingo more times that i can count this week (but i’m not complaining).
Plant Care is Not for the Faint of Heart.
one of my current residents is a total professional when it comes to indoor plants, so we’ve been incorporating that into our sessions. i’m pretty sure i’m having as much fun as she is with these sessions. i’ve been asking her all the questions about how not to kill plants (because, you know i’m really great at killing off supposedly easy-to-care-for plants) and she’s been giving me all the tips. biggest takeaway so far: water from the bottom and always make sure there’s a spot for excess water to drain from.

I got Fit-Tested for the First Time in my Life.
say what you will…. i’m not really sure how we’ve gone this long without proper fit testing. but i’m now an honorary member of the duck-bill club, and i’m honestly not mad about it. out of all the N95s out there, this one squishes my face the least.

Indoor Scarecrows Might be More Fun than Outdoor Ones.
i get to work with some really great recreation/activities departments. the activity of choice this week was creating indoor scarecrows (ie. filled with newspaper instead of leaves). because i’m not in the same building every day of the week, the scarecrows were already stuffed and mostly assembled by the time i joined the party. but let me tell you, decorating those scarecrows with random costume accessories with the residents was just the most fun!
What’s your favorite thing you did or encountered this week?
