As per usual, this summer flew right the heck by. And weirdly enough, I think I was the busiest I’ve been in quite a while.
In terms of my PRN hours this summer, I worked 4 days a week.
I’ve been consistently working at one particular building every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday since last summer. So that routine has stayed the same. But this past spring, I stopped working scheduled Mondays at another facility, paring my weeks down to 3 days in the SNF.
In May, another Rehab Manager from our company reached out asking for some extra coverage through the summer. Because my Monday’s were open, I started routinely providing Monday OT coverage for her beginning the first week of June. It’s been a good schedule, so I’ll be continuing this Monday schedule into the fall.
The Memory Unit OT has continued to grow through this summer.
It’s been just about a year of consistent content sharing, which is quite exciting. My husband and I spent some time this summer determining the best rhythms and routines to ensure that I have time to make content outside of working clinical hours, plus invest in our family and rest.
I spend a bit of time this summer giving the overall look of the site a little refresh. We’ve done a few collaborations, including a guest lecture with The Note Ninjas on documentation of dementia care services.
As of this summer, The Memory Unit OT has an Amazon Storefront to shop any and all product recommendations made to date (including all gift guides and treatment resources).
At the beckoning call of the social medias, I downloaded the Threads app and have made exactly 6 posts, then totally forgot all about the app…. are we surprised, though?
Professional Development has been significantly more efficient this summer.
I have literally .5 CEU remaining to reach the NH Renewal Requirements. I’ve spent much of my summer on ContinuED and it’s been really great.
And of course, the perk to being a PRN staff is you make your own schedule.
We took the full Memorial Day Weekend off to kick off the summer, had a full week’s vacation in Maine for the 4th of July, took several day trips to explore more of New Hampshire, spent a day eating lobsters on the coast of Maine, played several games of mini golf, and have a fun-filled Labor Day Weekend planned for the unofficial end of summer.
Oh, and we made an Instagram account reviewing all the ice cream we’ve tried this summer.
Unlike last summer, we’ve managed to avoid contracting the ‘vid.
We’ve remained healthy. I’ve been working to better manage my migraines. And overall, the level of burnout I felt last summer has significantly diminished.
I’m leaving Summer 2023 feeling grateful, content, and a little bit excited for pumpkin spice in my coffee starting next week 😉
