Resident Favorites (October 2023)

1. The Original KinesioTape: I’ve been using this all month, on both Residents and some staff actually! People love how supported it makes an injured or sore joint feel after the first application, and can make a lasting impact for pain and mobility when integrated into the full treatment plan.

2. Shirley Temple Movies: we’ve been watching a lot of these recently on rainy afternoons! Did you know you can watch them for free on YouTube? The link will bring you to a complete playlist.

3. Moccasin Slippers: the hunt for a fresh pair of slippers is kicking into gear as the weather gets colder. These are a great option as they’re warm and comfy on the inside, easy to slip on, but remain on the foot with a nice solid tread

4. Ponds Facial Cream: this might seem like a weird one, but many of the women I’ve worked with over the last few weeks have asked to use this while I’m assisting with their morning ADL routine. I’ve seen women use this over the years and honestly, I use it in the winter too! It’s thick, hydrating, but absorbs well and seems to work great for most Residents.

5. Bits and Pieces Fall Puzzles: my mom actually donate a handful of puzzles that she had already finished and the Residents have been loving them! I think I mentioned last month that we’ve had a little puzzle table setup in the community space that most of the Residents have been working on and it’s been wonderful. I’ll admit that these particular puzzles are hard, so they work a bit better on a standard long-term or assisted living unit instead of a memory unit – but they’ve been really fun to work on together.

6. Wooden Pumpkin Painting: one of the facilities I’m at each week had the Residents paint these pumpkin signs to help decorate the dining room and they came out so cute! I think the texture of these signs really helped to maintain good attention to the task and encourage Residents to explore with color a bit more than maybe they would have otherwise.
